As a leading member of Novartis Pharma’s Business Development & Licensing function, I headed a team that was in charge of the preparation, launch and ongoing implementation, as well as of all renegotiations, of the company’s global alliances; my experience in creating value with these alliances lead to appointments as a speaker at international Licensing and Alliance Management conferences, requests for articles in leading journals and as a member of the board of the “Association of Strategic Alliance Professionals" (ASAP).
Under my leadership, Novartis created a widely recognized alliance skills training program, the “Forum for Alliance Management Excellence (FAME)”. During my tenure, my team created substantial value for Novartis from license amendments and renegotiations and numerous product disposals. As CFO of Novartis Biosciências in Sao Paulo, I oversaw the company’s foreign exchange hedging and risk management program and was responsible for two major real estate divestments.
Upon my entry at the former Sandoz, I created its first professionalized Investor Relations program and was responsible for large debt and equity capital market transactions as well as spin-offs and acquisitions. A member of the core group preparing the merger of Sandoz and Ciba-Geigy, I learned first hand the impact of strategic transactions.
I gained training and experience in the international capital markets as a Vice-President with JPMorgan (in Zurich and New York), advising on and executing foreign exchange, options as well as debt and equity transactions for international corporate clients. I gained strategic–level leadership experience by serving, for many years, on the boards of a retail pharmacy and an international boarding school in Switzerland.
In 1983, I graduated with a masters degree in Business and Economics from the University of Zurich.
Believing in giving back some of what I was lucky enough to be given, I am also the founder and member of the donations board of a family charitable foundation. I am married and have three grown children; in my free time, I play Golf and the piano.
